The Five Herbs Behind My Signature Infusion
These five herbs form the foundation of my signature jojoba infusion. Jojoba oil was chosen for its lightweight feel and its ability to closely mimic the skin’s natural oils.
Each of the herbs below was selected for its gentle, supportive role in skin care. Together, they create something simple, balanced, and intentional.
Calendula (Calendula officinalis)
Calendula is the backbone of many of my formulations. This powerhouse is gentle, yet effective. It soothes irritation, moisturizes dry, flaky skin, and supports repair and regeneration.
If you had to pick one herb, this would be it. It is the Swiss army knife of skin care.
Fun fact: The leaves are edible.
Bonus points if you can pronounce it correctly: listen here. (Hint: I pronounced it wrong for the longest time.)
Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla)
Instead of sipping your calming chamomile tea, try it on your skin. It brings those same soothing qualities to skin care, helping reduce inflammation and redness while calming sensitive or reactive skin.
Green Tea (Camellia sinensis)
Green tea is not just an herbal staple, it is a powerful addition to skin care. It provides antioxidant support, helps protect against daily environmental stress, and supports a clearer, more even tone over time.
Self Heal (Prunella vulgaris)
With a name like Self Heal, its benefits feel obvious, and they are.
I was especially drawn to this one after reading about it. It is not as widely known as some of the others, and before I started experimenting with herbal infusions, I had not come across it at all.
It supports the skin’s natural ability to restore itself, encouraging repair and tissue regeneration while helping to minimize the appearance of scarring.
It also helps soothe minor irritations and supports overall skin balance.
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium)
Who needs harsh toners that dry out your skin? Yarrow tones and clarifies while supporting a balanced, healthy appearance. A natural astringent, it gently refines the skin, helping to manage excess oil and refine the appearance of pores.
Together, these herbs create a balanced and supportive foundation.
This signature infusion is featured in my MELISSA Herbals formulations, including:
Nourish Restorative Balm and Replenish Night Repair Serum.
Next, I’ll share how I formulate more specialized infusions using camellia and avocado oils, and why each one is chosen.
